Ulu Ventures
CIO, Co-Founder and Managing Director
I thrive on “aha” moments—those insights that forever change how I see the world. From the nature of atoms to the limits of human intuition in uncertainty, these revelations drive my passion for learning, science fiction, and first-principles thinking.
I admire entrepreneurs who challenge assumptions, embrace new frameworks, and have the courage to act on their convictions—yet remain humble enough to change when evidence demands it. Ulu Ventures is a haven for such visionaries, a place where unconventional ideas have the space to thrive.
Decision analysis was my ultimate “holy sh*t” moment. After one class at Stanford with Professor Ron Howard, I knew I had to pursue it. This framework for high-quality decision-making cuts across disciplines, revealing biases and flaws in human intuition about probability and reasoning. My mission became democratizing decision analysis—through training executives, building software, consulting to Fortune 500 companies, and co-authoring Ethics for the Real World.
Venture capital became my new medium. Ulu applies decision analysis to startup investing, tackling bias, and leveraging data-driven insights. If we prove our approach works before being dismissed as crazy, we won’t just fund great startups—we’ll change the world.
